Giving Back To The Community

Willowbrook Shopping Centre is proud to give back! With the support of our shoppers, retailers, and suppliers, we are able to help out our local community year-round.

Willowbrook's main charitable partner is the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, a volunteer-based health charity, leading in eliminating heart disease and stroke and reducing their impact through the advancement of research and its application, the promotion of healthy living, and advocacy. Throughout 2013, Willowbrook will be holding several in-centre activities to raise funds for the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada and help promote awareness of heart and stroke in our community!  Stay tuned for details!

In 2012, Willowbrook Shopping Centre also supported 77 other organizations, raising $69,000+ directly, $119,000+ from 3rd party fundraising, and providing over 148 days of in-kind centre space donations. We intend to raise even more funds for our community in 2013!

Giving Highlights

ADOPT A STREAM - YEAR ROUND

As part of our environmental initiatives, Willowbrook Shopping Centre adopted the creek at Meadows Creek Park through the Township of Langley's "Adopt" program.  As part of this program, Willowbrook Administration staff conduct litter pick-ups at the stream on a regular basis in order to preserve the ecologically sensitive stream environment. 

BIG BIKE 

Every year, Willowbrook's Hearts & Motion Walking Club (a joint initiative of Willowbrook and the Heart & Stroke Foundation) plus members of Willowbrook’s Administration team, fundraise for the Heart & Stroke Foundation’s BIG BIKE ride. In May 2013, we raised over $2,786 for the cause.

EASTER PHOTOS – MARCH/APRIL

Annually, customers of all ages hopped on down for photos with the Easter Bunny! $6,526 was raised from the 2013 Easter photo sales to support the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.

BANK A BAG – APRIL

Annually, every April, Willowbrook Shopping Centre's  shoppers were invited to help make the earth a greener place, by declining a plastic bag with their purchases at Willowbrook stores.  3,100+ plastic bags were saved from the landfill with this eco-initiative during the spring 2013 initiative. 

TRICK OR TREAT PARADE - OCTOBER

Annually, our popular Trick or Treat Parade is held on October 31, and over 1,000 ghosts, princesses, dinosaurs attend this fun event. In 2012,  $2,432 was raised for Langley Food Bank and Sources Women’s Place – Food Security Programs!  A big thanks to the community for supporting this annual fundraising event! 

HOLIDAY SHOPPING EVENT- NOVEMBER

Willowbrook held it's 2nd annual Holiday Shopping Event on November 27, 2012. The fun ticketed event allowed shoppers to take beat the holiday shopping crowds, take advantage of great savings, enjoy fab entertainment and activities, and support local charities at the same time. $29,466+ was raised from the 2012 Holiday Shopping Event for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley, Canadian Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, Langley Association for Community Living, Langley Community Services Society, Langley Lions Club, Langley Lodge, Langley Meals on Wheels Services Society, Langley School District Foundation, Sources Women's Place, and The University of the Fraser Valley.   

CHARITY GIFT WRAP CENTRE - DECEMBER

Thousands of shoppers took advantage of Willowbrook's holiday gift wrapping services at our Charity Gift Wrap Centre. Over $10,000 was raised in December 2012 from the Gift Wrap Centre and proceeds from the gift wrap services went to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
